In light of the news surrounding the pandemic, you might be inclined to accept that business will be difficult. My hope is that the following story will help you start to overcome this limiting belief.
Today, I want to shed light on the remarkable story of a Chinese woman who went from a broke foreign student to being one of THE most successful real estate agents in Australia – catering exclusively to ultra-high net worth Chinese clients.
I am talking about Monika Tu.
Monika is so successful that she even made $85 million during the pandemic.
She Had a Rough Start
In 1988, Monika immigrated to Australia from Shenzhen as just one of the thousands of international students looking for a better education.
Not being able to speak English, Monika had to resort to working petty jobs so that she could keep herself afloat.
In fact, she worked any job that would take her, seven days a week, even washing dishes for 12 hours straight.
After graduating in 1992, she moved to Sydney and began working at a computer shop where she sold floppy disks, CDs, and electronics – far from the glamorous existence she has today. Yet, for over 15 years Monika helped build the stall where she worked into a multinational electronics firm.
She Realized That Having a Vision is Key
She shared during her interview with the Daily Mail that “You always need to have a vision, I didn’t want to work in a market for the rest of my life.”
Even though she was able to retire based on her success with the electronics firm, she had a hunch to start another company.
Her real estate company was originally founded to help Chinese immigrants as they adjusted to life in Australia, as this was something that she wished she had when she first arrived in the country.
The $13 Million Dollar Deal
Soon after she started, she was introduced to a wealthy Chinese buyer looking to purchase high-end real estate in Australia.
Monika sold the property for $13.5 million.
This life-transforming deal helped Monika build her company from just two people into more than 35 employees. And that year, her company reached over $120 million in annual sales.
Now, Monika appeals specifically to ultra-rich buyers who can afford a $5 million significant investor visa that allows them to buy properties in Australia.
She Made a Niche Out of Something That Some Might Have Deemed a Shortcoming
She shares that “New migrants need someone they can trust, who understands them and where they are coming from, and help them not make too many mistakes.”
You see, while one person would cling onto the seemingly “negative” identity of being an “immigrant,” Monika took that very experience and made it into a million-dollar idea.
Her humble beginnings, experience as an immigrant in Australia, and now exclusive taste makes her the perfect trustworthy real estate agent for her clients.
Why Am I Sharing Her Story?
Because we can choose to take our negative experiences as a solid identity and not thrive when we stay hypnotized by the 3D – clinging onto our limiting beliefs.
People like Monika have a natural ability to persevere and keep their eye on the prize.
Unknowingly, they apply a strict mental diet, focus on the future and go for what they believe in – even if others cannot see what they see.
